Really interesting poem!! I really liked it. I felt like it was quite metaphorical at the start about like maybe loss of innocence but then maybe it seemed more literal at the end?? Great job thank you for sharing.

Aw thanks Nick!! I really like that interpretation! I guess the beauty of poetry is that it’s about the emotion the words invoke in us and not necessarily the actual words 🩵

What I was feeling when I wrote it was about the loss of belonging to a place we used to live and not being able to return because time moves on. And as you point out, that can be a state of being that we move on from too 😌

A gorgeous poem, I could feel and see and taste the sea, I loved the rhythm of the stanzas. Thanks for sharing this mermaid tale and a picture of some beautiful Tassie cliffs.
